Record investment, more police officers and neighbourhood policing teams have led to a reduction in crime. Labour’s ‘no-nonsense’ approach is bringing crime down nationally.
This is also working locally: in Haringey, which includes Tottenham one of the country’s most deprived areas, we are set to exceed our target for serious acquisitive crime; a reduction of 9.3% has been achieved against a target of 1.4%.
Recorded incidents of both gun and knife crime have reduced significantly since the beginning of the financial year.
Haringey’s Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team currently has a 94% success rate of enforcement action following surveillance and a 97% rate on other legal proceedings to protect the community.
See how Labour compares:
| Labour’s policies | Tory Government | |
|---|---|---|
| … plans for the Home Office budget would be the equivalent of losing 3,500 officers from our streets. |

Labour’s record:
| The alternative record on crime from 1979 to 1997 speaks for itself:
|
|
| New “Safer Neighbourhood” police teams in every area of England and Wales, including every ward of Hornsey & Wood Green. | … could cut back your safer neighbourhood team, reducing the number of bobbies on your beat. | |
| New “Safer Neighbourhood” police teams in every area of England and Wales, including every ward of Hornsey & Wood Green. | … talk tough, but vote soft on crime. They have opposed many of Labour’s initiatives that are driving down crime. | |
