Save the Whittington A&E
Karen Jennings is leading the charge to save our 24 hour Accident and Emergency Unit at the Whittington, which has been put under review by London NHS executives. She has launched a petition and attended both the public meetings arranged by Jeremy Corbyn MP at which she publicly challenged the¬†NHS managers in charge:¬† “The only option in any future proposals for the Whittington is to have a full 24 hour A&E department. Without this Hornsey and Wood Green would lose our Maternity, Neonatal Unit and other surgical teams. This is not an option.‚ÄùKaren marched to the Save the Whittington on 27 February at which she said: ” Having spoken at two public meetings on this issue, knocked on the doors of over 6,000 local residents and launched a petition, I know that local people want two things.¬† They want to know how to make local NHS officials accountable to the public for their decisions and they want to keep the A&E open.”¬†¬†Karen’s campaign is ongoing and she has a series of events planned to publicise this vital campaign.

Karen Jennings campaigning with Business Minister Pat McFadden. The campaign continues, supported by local campaigners and restaurateurs, “Feast on the Hill” and “The Pump House”:  Karen said “We want tips left by customers to show thanks to hard working staff, to be kept by the staff.”
“I want the children of Haringey to have the same opportunities as children from neighbouring Boroughs.”  Karen alongside Labour Leaders took the arguments to Diana Johnson and made the case for more funding plus a better funding formula.
Karen takes the Director of “JAN Trust” to meet Gordon Brown and Sarah Brown to highlight this important women’s voluntary organisation. Situated in Hornsey and Wood Green, it provides opportunities to develop confidence and community cohesion and cultural harmony.
Karen Jennings campaigned successfully in Woodside and Crouch End with residents and “Lap Off”. Karen Jennings welcomed Labour Party action to tighten up a loophole which could have seen lap dancing clubs open in the local area, without residents views being taken into account.Praising Haringey Council and local residents for their stand against applications for two lap dancing clubs in the area, Karen Jennings, said:
“I believe that the views of local residents must be respected.   As part of the sex industry, lap dancing clubs exploit women and can lead to excessive noise and rowdiness and a danger to women when they open in the area.
“Right from the start I was keen to support local residents who objected to lap dancing clubs opening in Hornsey and Wood Green. That is why I backed new Labour legislation giving residents a voice in what kind of premises should open in their area.
“I think many local people will feel let down by sitting Liberal Democrat MP, Lynne Featherstone, who did not support the legislation, preferring to sit on the fence saying she had no objection in principle to lap dancing clubs.
“I believe local residents should have voice and this legislation will help to do just that and the new Labour Legislation means communities across the country will also benefit.”
